I want to upgrade my windows.
I have now a windows vista, but i can't play, for exemple, guitar ring + guitar pro(or WMP) at the same time.
My question is:
In windows 7 will it be in the same way, like vista?
Or in windows 7 will I be able to play at the same time those softwares?
Thanks.

You can expect it to behave similar to Vista in this regard. Please see also the sticky re:Cannot run two audio applications at the same time!

well i've been using win7, really great OS, MUCH BETTER than vista of course, but regarding sound issues, well, same as vista unfortenately. i miss xp but too late now, maybe ill just buy an audio interface if it solves the problem.

What Michael said is that, by design, ASIO bypasses kmixer (Windows audio mixer) and thus only one application can take control of the audio interface at the same time. Then it's not a problem of whichever OS you pick (XP, Vista, 7), rather a "feature" of ASIO.

ASIO bypasses kmixer (Windows audio mixer) kmixer in XP, WaveRT in Vista and 7.

Windows 7 doesnt have the same limit as Vista, moron !
It all depends your music software.
In windows 7 you can have lots of apps sharing the soundcard, in so called WASAPI mode.
Like if you want to play keyboard, guitar and play music at the same time.
Windows 7 - 4 ever !

Like if you want to play keyboard, guitar and play music at the same time. While it should be obvious to everyone that you can play keyboard and guitar at the same time, the question remains which hand you then would have left to operate your drum stick.

WASAPI (Windows Audio Session API) is the API used by windows Vista *and* 7 (surprised?) for audio mixing and stuff. But in order for ASIO4ALL to achieve the lowest latency possible, WASAPI has to be in "exclusive" mode, which sends only one stream of audio to the soundboard, ignoring the rest. So, dear moron, you can't. Watch out for the drumstick.

This works great with windows 7 32bit, not tested with 64bit yet. Has reduced my latency in cubase 5 and sibelius from 300ms to about 10ms, bloody amazing!
Dedicated ASIO soundcard? Ha, looks like I can ditch my music machine now!
