In German language, "Wuschel" is a nick mostly given to pets . The last time I _did_ try to explain the meaning to non-native German speakers was during my time in England at a pub crawl. Words like "fluffy" were contaminating the place and I shall never even think of trying _that_ ever again!
As usual, you don't actually have a choice as towards the nick your buddies prefer to bestow upon you.
Wasn't my fault, mind...
May I add: It has something to do with the hairdo - or better put - the complete lack thereof.

I see - it's a story worth telling as long as the laugh doesn't go too far. No, you can't pick your own nickname if you want your friends to care. (Unless you are in U2) ;D If it's any consolation, I picked up the nickname rekliner while attempting to play football in high-school. Being a future programmer I wasn't very coordinated and spent a noticible amount of time tripping over ropes, tires, linebackers, etc... When I fell they yelled I was "reklining", and after a while I was the rekliner - because of the smilarity to my name. It at least makes for a catchy domain: www.rekliner.com

Maybe "Wuschel" sounds a lot like "rascal" in English. I bet they're related?
