Removed Realtek Drivers as suggested.Vista drivers ok although no input. No biggie . Disabled GS Synth as suggested. I am using the latest beta and now have acceptable latency and can use my underpowered laptop for doing editing at work. Thanks for helping me end a week of stress favorably.Great stuff on this board.
I need to go outside and breathe.

I hope someone can clarify a few things for me:
-There is no other driver listed in audio settings other than the Realtek one, so if it is disabled shouldn't there be no sound?
-Is there a way to use TWO drivers at once? I'd like to use other programs besides my DAW while it is on, but Asio can apply to only one at a time. Can I use realtek or whatever to handle another program?
-I've heard that WASAPI drivers in Vista produce just as little latency as ASIO, but I cannot find how to turn on these WASAPI drivers. (If they are the default ones, then in fact their latency is unusably long)

hi, I've been facing a similar issue with the output coming out perfectly but the mic in not quite working as I'd like it to. below is a screenshot: as you can see, I get no logic errors or anything. Unfortunately, I don't get any signal from the mic in and was wondering what troubleshooting measures I can take. I had also tried plugging in the mic into the line in to test as well as only turn on the line in or the stereo in and various combinations. I also toggled the WaveRT option on and off. any help in any capacity would be much appreciated. thanks again Michael for your dedication to getting asio functions available at a much more affordable cost than buying a card.

Win xp SP2 + Realtek HD audio drivers + asio4all = works.
however, one issue though.. high latency necessary. i used to run guitar rig through ableton live on much, much worse PC configuration (think <1gb ram, <=1 ghz CPU, if i remember correctly) and it worked better. what

My output sometimes "magically" disappears from the asio screen though 2-5 attempts of restarting the computer resolves the problem it's kinda bit of a hassle. Would anyone recommend me any procedures on how to solve this problem, help is much appreciated thanks. ;D

I uninstalled bloatware as mentioned, found that something to do with playback multistreaming (And exclusive mode priority) was screwing with my settings, before I load FL Studio for recording, i close anything sound related (back to desktop) Open ASIO4ALL In offline mode and ensure that my outputs and input (which is a usb preamp - everything else disabled) are all go. which they always are if i follow this process, if one program or bg process is using the soundcard it seems to be given "Exclusive mode priority" windows might be buggin out a bit (i think its disabled, tried both options and get funny happenings) either way, if offline mode is open and everything is fine, when I open FL everything will be fine! Sorry for the late reply, have been working real hard on a more professional sound, tend to get reclusive, give my stuff a listen and tell me what you think www.rythmiklove.mymusicstream.com <- music should start playing instantaneously, and be lo-fi for dialup users!

I had this EXACT same problem!! Turns out it was FRAPS!! When your comp starts and fraps runs at startup it takes hold of the default input device for it's video recordings. Just don't run fraps at startup and the default input device should be free!!

Hi all: I just got this running: hphsite.de/KAWAI/asio4all.png(Large screenshot) 8.2 ms latency, No crackles at all. I cannot believe it. Even when I open Firefox and have a window with Flash animation.... nothing, it is absolutely stable, no crackles. First I followed the advice to delete the Realtek drivers, but that did not work for me. Then I downloded the driver from Realtek. That did not work either. Pull Mode was not working. I use an MSI EX600 Laptop and I downloaded the newest driver from MSI. This seems to be the newest version available. This also installs the Realtek audio manager also. In the audio manager I selected 48000 Hz and 24 Bit as Standard format, the same as in Kontakt. I dont know if that matters, but from previous attempts I got the feeling that this avoids audible buffering errors that otherwise occur every 30 minutes. This is running now for more than 1 hour playing the demos from my piano without problems. Toi toi toi ..... ;-) Im so happy in this moment. That is 20 times better in performance than my EDIROL UA4-FX and sound is equally good. Knock knock, hope this will work tomorrow as well as today... ;-) BTW, Asio4all says I have 32 Bit Sound interface. With the original windows driver it said, I have 24 bit. Whats going on there? Hi,
ASIO4ALL always delivers data as 32 Bit float. This does not mean that the 'input' to ASIO4ALL also provides 32 Bit resolution.

I had to modify my setting a little bit: While the previous setting worked fine for synthogy ivory it caused problems with the Kontakt Player. Apparently it is important that the ASIO buffer has some minimum size. If not, dropouts will occur when the CPU usage of Kontakt increases. That happens for example when using the sustain pedal in Galaxy Vintage D. Edit: Now I further optimized my setup. I disabled the cardreader that shares an interrupt with the Realtek HD and disabled one USB device, that shares an Interrupt with my PCMCIA card, where I have the samples. I set Kontakt player to XP2 compatibilyty mode with admin rights, and after starting it I set it to Realtime priority in the Taskmonitor. Under these conditions I can use an ASIO buffer of 128 and set "Buffer offset" to 2ms. Total latency displayed in Kontakt is 5.7ms now without crackles. It would be interesting to know, if under these conditions ASIO4ALL inherits the realtime priority, and, if not, if there is a way to set it to realtime priority. Edit: I rechecked it today: The most important modification for me was to install the newest Realtek drivers for my Laptop from MSI. These are considerably newer than those that realtek offers online and use much less CPU than the drivers from Realtek and from windows. Peter
