Hello, I just purchased an external sound card for my notebook, and I can't get it to work with my MIDI keyboard and ASIO4ALL. It does play sounds from Vista/other applications fine. I am using the M-Audio KeyRig software. "ASIO4ALL v2" appears as the selected sound card in my software, and 3 output channels appear: "SB Xi-Fi Surround 5.1 1" "SB Xi-Fi Surround 5.1 3" and "SB Xi-Fi Surround 5.1 5" The keys don't play. I have had my software and keyboard running well previously with my on-board audio(Realtek HD), so my software is otherwise configured properly. OS: Vista Home Premium 32bit Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 USB Asio4All 2.8 My notebook meets all the minimum system requirements for my new sound card. I have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled the sound card drivers/software suite already. I have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled ASIO4ALL 2.8 once also. Any help is appreciated!

It was a problem with the sound card installation after all. This Creative KB article explains: support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=52848Was skeptical that it could still be the sound card installation since other app sounds worked fine, and plus I had already reinstalled once... but alas. Maybe someone else will have the same problem some day? So its working--there is some delay, but hopefully there's something I can do to tweak it.

Hi pztrick44,
I'm gonna buy a X-FI Surround 5.1 USB and I read your topic about it.
I'm gonna use Reason and FLStudio with my midi keyboard and I'm wondering if this sound card works with low latency with your midi device and without sound glitches?.
Thanking in advance

i used x-fi surround 5.1 usb
everytimes i rewire fruity loops with n track theres a lot gap while trackem record
wheni use VST intrument like M1 or Emu drum and mixdown the module the result loops wave sample its gaps (with or without rewire)
i can compare it between vst module sequencer and a LOOP result wave sample mixdown while i playback it together its not same (vst module and loops wave mixdown not equal)
my question is:
1. i already slide asio driver menu adjust it but dont give big diffrent to fix gap
2. I know there a bug on x-fi driver so now i use PAX to avoid BSOD but the gap still happen
3. If i dont use driver from OEM cd and let windows detect the card in asio just show 6 ouput
but i used driver from oem cd and install it then asio show 8 output
thnx cheers hope 4 enlighten

one more last question:
1. I used reaper and show me output sb x-fi 5.11/ 5.12 ---> Sb x-fi 5.17/ 5.18 (stereo) output sb x-fi 5.11 ----> 5.18 ( mono)
and in fruity loops just show me only stereo from 5.11/5.12 --->5.17/5.18
my question is do this 4 stereo output or 8 mono output really can be mixdown and asign to the master (as a bus or else)
and then the result render mixdown its really render from this 4 stereo output / 8 mono output?
thnx cheerss

and then the result render mixdown its really render from this 4 stereo output / 8 mono output? Please forgive my poor message parsing skills as of today, but it is generally true that audio mixdown / rendering should in no way depend on your sound hardware / driver ... whatsoever. Even without any real audio device, you should still be able to do a mixdown - you merely won't hear anything!

thnx for reply mister tippach
yes i exprementing the output source that asio detected in reaper
when i workin and assign each track with diffrent output i can hear the sound getting loud
but after render/mixdown seems like reaper just render the a pair stereo output (5.11/5.12) and ignore rest of them (5.13/5.14 --->5.17/5.18)
i have one more question :
1. is digital mixer are managed by software aplication /managed by asio driver or depend architecture mixer hardware inside the soundcard ?
2. is asio can managed resync frekwensi khz in any kinda soundcard model ? which mean asio driver as software can handle it or to manage resync need a capable hardware chipset inside the soundcard ?
becuz i see some other x-fi got console with resync frewkensi function in music creation mode
and what i know the console usb surround 5.1 didnt bring resync function
i havent try other expensive soundcard like digidesign exmple and i dont know are those expensive soundcard handle resync frekwensi becuz the soundcard is already design and contain with chipset to handle that function or by software driver .
Ps: I test the soundcard with sounforges and testing recording at 48khz/24bit and compare with 96khz/24 bit and the result sounded same
and then i test recording up in 192khz/24 bit and it work
i use notebook asus x51rl 2G ram windows xp sp3
thnx u cheers

Hellow
at FL i test use strobe VST and loops 1 samples drum
the asio driver cannot handle smooths and makes the CPU load up and its sound loud clips click
but when i use directx/wdm driver the cpu can handle it and dont get any sound click clips
and the sequencer FL running smoothly than with asio driver , i dont know wat happens inside system between those driver asio and directx/wdm bout handling VST
on reaper with asio driver is running better to handles samples wave than direct/wdm driver at FL i cannot adjust 88200khz sample rate with asio driver
but with direct/wdm driver i can adjut 88200khz sample rate
thnx

Hellow.....
as usual..the x-fi oem just still stuck at beta driver 98....
Beta driver 98 are same as PAX v1.10 driver, those both driver just fixing the BSOD and resources mem
the diffrent is Beta driver 98 Oem they try to tweak the sound , but then i have to said still not perfectly well,
I already test it with Generic usb microsoft and beta 98, the range sound lot gap there
i still give big thumbs for generic usb microsoft driver and pax
Confusing of this soundcard since each driver can be tweak is i dont know wat real sound is can produce from the hardware
Sometimes diffrent driver brings diffrent ranges, so at that point when going to mixing up or mastering its hard to tell how far the bass or treble has done .
My point talk bout this is becuz i ve had test it with same setup song mixing with VST FX plug in master FX and comparing between em. It becuz when the driver was tweaking the internal ranges proses and then it should be affecting the internal rendering or mixdown the song.
Becuz basicly after i update realtek onboard on my notebook with realtek x-fi driver version. I realize the x-fi driver contain some multiband compresor without must using x-fi console. So its hard to explained, when puting some VST compresor but after all the driver or hardware it self already filtering/compressing the sound. And it can be sound lot diffrent when listening it in other soundcard which is by passing the internal proses sound.
Sorry if my english its not good to explain bout that case. But my point is some noise and some unpredictable mix sound making hard to control the sound that can be heard at speaker/ headphone since theres , in other words the natural sound is unknown.
cheers

GOod news with asio4all ver 10 beta
1st i thought i will not get any signal since i see volume control under windows not show any volume microphone and volume line input control.
BUt then i test ARMING track in reaper and then record it and then the signal is there yes is there yessss
1. Dont install any OEM driver old or new OEM
2. If u already install OEM driver just uninstall all console software and OEM software, unplug the soundcard. AND reboot
3. Connect again after reboot , open device driver at system at control panel . Uninstal device becuz u will still see OEM driver there if u not uninstall. Unplug and reboot.
4. Reboot into safe mode. Use driver sweeper , scan it and clean up
5. Plug in again and let windows detect it. When window find it ask to install just press next until USB audio driver appears
6. Check again at control panel system if u still get LOCKED OEM driver then try to unisntall it again and Reboot again into safe mode and use driver sweeper again to clean up Locked driver. Yes i do it twice this day to clean up in safe mode.
cheerss
