I found a way to disable MS GS Wavetable synth by disabling "windows audio" in the service manager in Windows 7. The making it exclusive thing did not work for me; this however kind of did. It no longer says that the damned GS synth crap is using my spdif out. But, i still hear no sound. I ******* hate windows 7, kind of.

I solved no sound with asio4all with amplitube! My pc is windows 7 64bit, high definition audio, the key is turn off listen to this device in microphone properties > playback. Because before I use amplitube, I need to turn on this option in order to listen guitar sound in pc.

I have the same problem - Windows 7 Proffesional x64, and I have Asus Xonar DX and HD Audio from realtek. Exclusive mode (disabled) not helping - I did it for all active devices. And still when i use browser (any - opera, ff, chrom, safari, etc) watching youtube or something, Asio4All showing that device is in use, and cant hear the sound. When I stop watching and turn on Guitar Rig with Asio4All - I hear the sound but then i can't hear anythig from browsers. I use Guitar Rig 4

For Vista users:
Control Panel (classic view) Sound Select a device from the list of playback devices show Properties (bottom right) Advanced tab (on new window) Untick all of the Exclusive Mode boxes Apply and Ok. Repeat for each device from the list of playback devices.
Worked for me ;D
(sorry for double post)

I tried rogers solution but it didnt work for me for Windows 7 but I did find a way for me to make it work I found a way to disable MS GS Wavetable synth by disabling "windows audio" in the service manager in Windows 7, I dont know if its the same in Vista or xp. Right click my computer go to manage, then go to service at the bottom of the menu tree, on the right scroll down to windows audio and stop the service, it will disable all windows sounds and you will not hear anything with it. But now, you can use asio4all without complications. Thaks, works for me. I had problems with my 2nd output, I disabled the windows audio service, than I could use the 2nd output too. Now I re-enabled the service and the 2nd output still doesn't have any conflict with MS GS Wavetable Synth, so I can use both the windows audio service and ASIO4ALL. ty

Ok, I'm at a loss here, and maybe I'm not doing this right....but when I go to sounds and audio devices properties, the only thing in my audio box for midi music playback is "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth". So do I just delete it? And if so do I replace it with something? I'm using Reason ans Record...however haven't loaded record on yet because it needs asio driver. Appreciate any help, btw using windows xp

Solution found. close all applications like MSN, Skype, Winamp, anything that uses sound. after that, your output chanel will be available. works for me on WinXP SP3, Audition 3.

A solution which worked for me in Win 7 x64(and probably all Win 7 versions) - Go to Playback devices
- Double click the device you want to make available to Asio4All
- At the bottom under 'Device Usage'=>Choose 'Disable' then click 'Apply'
- Click 'OK' => 'OK' so the sound dialogue box is gone
- Check Asio4All now which should show your device as available
Once (in my case) Asio4All under Reason was able to use my device, I re-enabled it as above and the problem has not returned. I am not sure this last part matters but I was curious as to what was going on. Good luck Adam

Roger's sulution worked once or twice with many resets of Reson/Record and Computer, but the information provided by RotaryKnight nailed what I and so many other audiophiles needed, a way to tell Windows to stop everthing, hold the phone, I want sound to go and come from where I tell it to.
Thanks WhiteW01f

i have similar problems and they seem unsolvable, i managed to record audio once, but it hasnt worked again under the same or any combination on different settings, why must music software be so counterintuitive.
