It seems I'm the first poster here. Perhaps I'll get some kind of prize?
I have a yamaha synth. I used to play around with cakewalk and so... but the latency from my sound device was frustrating. Also, some software only works with an ASIO driver, and Gigastudio ONLY works with a GSIF card... so I ended up unplugging and storing everything until I was able to buy a TASCAM USB sound card, which is GSIF/ASIO compatible, but very expensive.
Two great news renewed my interest for music lately.
The first, of course, was to find ASIO4ALL. I had tried another utility before, which was NOT free, and whose demo DIDN't work. Sincerely, when I downloaded ASIO4ALL I didn't expect it to work very well. But now I am able to monitor audio with 2.5 mS LATENCY in my crappy AC97 on-board audio! and with reverb, chorus and flanger! (IN fact it works with a buffer of 64 samples, without a problem... but I use it at 128, just to feel safer).
The other news are that the new Gigastudio version 3 has a ReWire. That means It can be hooked to a ReWired sequencer (cubase, cakewalk... almost all of them) and use the sequencer's ASIO4ALL-driven sound device, instead of requiring a GSIF card!
Now I'm wired again, recording and sequencing. Thank you very much, Michael.
Emilio.

Actually, the price for the first post in the forum would be a free, fully licensed copy of ASIO4ALL, congrats! ;-P
I've been thinking about this GSIF thing a while back. As opposed to ASIO, GSIF is not an open standard and you have to beg them (Tascam) for the interface spec. real hard, I suppose - and sign over your first born. Not my cup of tea!

Hi Michael You may want to contact the developer team for the KX project. www.kxproject.comIt is an advanced driver for the Soundblaster cards that supports GSIF and ASIO and the some advanced hidden features of the SB cards. It is a free driver built by enthusiasts that has been around for a while. The reason i mention this, is that they may be able to give you the GSIF info you need. Cheers, Roy
