This is the X-mas present I'm giving to myself this year. Got it just a couple hours ago...
This is not exactly a mobile workstation and I did not expect it to. Thus, I was prepared to see it somehow restricted as far as audio. After all, this is an ultra-portable, and as such an incredibly slim and cute (in a male sense of "cute") new toy.
Surprise, surprise!
I got the version with the new 1.4GHz LV CPU (Dothan core) and 1GB, and, as far as the "feel", when checking the CPU meter in Cubase SX3, it sort of outperforms a P4 Northwood @2.4GHz with VSTi-s (or may be my perceiption is blurred at the moment because I'm a bit excited). This is when on AC power. On battery, it clocks down to five hundred something MHz (you can override this, though) and the performance is still acceptable, I wouldn't see any problems with playing VSTi-s live on batteries (except that my skills would not allow me to play anything live without embarrasment)
SoundMax Audio, 128 Samples with Hardware Buffer off gives stable performance, also on batteries. I probably could go lower but I don't think I have to.
With h/w buffer on and buffer offset of some 4ms, it is stable with AC but input crackles a bit when on DC (a higher buffer offset would cure that) Anyway, I decided to leave the h/w buffer off in this case.
Connected the thing to the audio system (real speakers etc.) - there is _no hum_, and virtually _no static_ at all! (This is when running on AC!) No ground loop noise no nothing, this is incredible!
So if you're looking for something small, lightweight and cute (in a male sense of "cute") and have some extra money left to spend (they're not exactly cheap), this thing is a real contender as a live playing machine!
