AMD Atholon 1.2 512 MB Ram 200 GB external fire wire drive W2k Monkey's Audio Lossless compression
MediaMonkey using ASIO output driver for winamp w/ buffer of 3, no EQ, no upsampling, no PC processing of any kind (hopefully)
ASIO4all USB driver set to 0 latency and 0 buffer USB out
Pioneer Elite 55txi running Hi-Bit upsampling to 24bit/96khz B&W 602 s3 fronts w/ 650 sub Substandard wiring and interconnects
I have been tinkering for over a year while building my system. Huge difference in sound quality moving to the asio4all driver.
Originally I was running SPDIF out to my receiver, but I kept noticing faint background hiss, lack of full dynamic range, and latency levels that I could not get lower than 15ms.
My receiver has a USB input so I tested that and the hissing stopped, the music seemed to be more full in range, and I was able to get the latency levels down to 0 using no buffer.
It should be noted that the asio output driver for winamp has a buffer setting as well. I did have to set this to 3 to avoid pops and skips. As of yet, I have not ascertained what physical effect that buffer has on latency, signal clarity, etc.
Audiophile quality sound may never be achieved using the PC, but I can attest to the monumental upgrade in sound my system achieved by using the ASIO4all USB driver and bypassing my sound card.
Comments, good or bad are appreciated.
