having a similar problem on my laptop. the audio is so loud that it often distorts, and wave volume slider doesn't seem to have any effect on asio4all.

As an extra to my original post, I get the distortion at completely random times as i begin to mix in a tune and it lasts for the entire length of the tune until i have mixed in the next tune entirely. It happens on both sound cards (each sound card is channel on the mixer) and what makes it so strange is that it doesnt happen at regular intervals nor is it always on one particular channel.

The whole point with ASIO4ALL is that it provides a rather direct interface to your sound hardware, bypasing any of the Windows internal software mixing stuff. Thus, the volume slider in e.g. Winamp would not work, but most of the time, the master volume slider in the Windows mixer will. This "what's in - that's out" behavior with no attenuation is not specific to ASIO4ALL but rather the standard behavior of _any_ ASIO driver - meaning that it is _meant_ to get pretty loud at e.g. 0dBV.

Mezla, I seem to not be able to memorize every particular audio setup ever posted in this forum. I am sure you posted it, but what was it? Help me!

Hey Michael, My mixing setup is Traktor DJ Studio with Numark DXM01 USB Mixer (2 usb 1.1 links to the pc which setup individual sound cards for each channel). Also have an audigy2 (not sure if this would affect the setup in anyway) My current ASIO4All Settings are: USB Mixer ------------- Buffer size - 800 Latency comp - 32 in, 32 out Hardware buffer - off Kernal buffers - 2 Always resample - off Force 16bit - off Audigy2 ---------- Same as above but Buffer size = 512 I've also recently got the crashing problem happening again, aswell as the existing stutter issue. Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated Michael.

Hi Mezla, The moment I posted my question was the moment I did remember your setup and your original problem. However, the symptoms you describe _now_ do align a lot more with what one would expect if ASIO4ALL is used with two devices at the same time that are not clock synced - contrary to your original statement that it sort of doesn't work at all. Even though this does not solve your problem, it moves it out of the esotheric realm into what can be understood by mere mortals ;D What did you need to do in order to get it working at least so far? AFAIR, the folks from Numark are very cooperative so there may be a solution once the exact nature of the problem (clock skew?) has been determined.

Hi Michael, Nice to hear u have more of an idea of what might be the problem. Would love to get it sorted so I can mix problem free . What did you need to do in order to get it working at least so far? Basically all i've really done when i've had any problems is raise the buffer size, as I'm not 100% sure what im doing hehe I consider myself a pretty advanced pc user but u've got me stumped with this one lol. I had some problems with my mixer at the start and I rang up numark and was chattin to a real helpful guy so fingers crossed you can sort out a solution PLEASSSSSSSSSSSE!! lol

Hi Michael, Any news? I've not done much mixing lately partly down to the fact it seems to crash everytime i do - kinda takes the fun away. One thing I did notice though - when i usually mix i cast aswell and im getting VERY high constant cpu usage when i enable the casting (about 60-70 i think it was, compared with 10-30 MAX when casting off) Not sure if this would be related to ASIO4ALL in anyway but it seems a bit crazy that it should be using that much cpu even when completely idle

Just a quick update - it's now crashing my entire system (i.e. cant ctrl+alt+delete or anything simply have to press reset) EVERY time i use Traktor. I've tried reinstalling both Traktor and ASIO4All both with no success. Really lost as to what to try next and it's completly stopped me from being able to mix Please Michael try n sort something out or give me some pointers jus wanna get mixin again Mezla
