Hi all, I have an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard with an AD1985 AC97 onboard sound. (Soundmax)
Should I enable "always resample 44.1 kHz <> 48 kHz" ?
Should I enable "Force WDM Driver to 16Bit" ?
The Panel shows: Out 6x 48kHz, 20Bits In 2x 48kHz, 16Bits
If I don't enable it, does the AC97 "bad" resampling ?

The FAQ says this: "Q: Why does it sound muddy/why do I hear crackles in intervals of like 10 seconds or so when running at 44.1kHz where at 48kHz everything is fine? A: These are typical resampling artifacts from poorly designed WDM drivers. Since version 1.7 beta 2, there is a check box 'Always Resample @44.1k'. When checked, ASIO4ALL will take care of the resampling business on its own, even if the card driver says it can do 44.1k" I also came across a dated article here about those options: www.head-fi.org/forums/f46/asio4all-explanation-221237/It sounds like some (possibly older?) versions of the soundmax driver do poor resampling if they are sent audio of the wrong sample rate. It looks like you might want to select 48kHz audio playback in whatever software you are using. Now that I look, so should I. Although, you'll have to convert your mixdown to 44.1 if you want to burn to a cd. But you can usually select a high-quality resampling method in whatever software is doing the converting.

My main use for Asio4all is Winamp, which plays all sound in 44.1kHz. I've read now that all AC97 resampling internally to 48kHz. So I have to resampling my Winamp sound to 48kHz, to prevent the AC97 doing it.
Should I activate resampling in the out_asio.dll (otachan plugin), which offers various quality settings, or in Asio4all ?
Which gives better sound quality ? Does someone know?

Which gives better sound quality ? Does someone know? You want to have the highest quality ASAP. That means that if you want to output in 48kHz that it is best to have the generator doing it for you or let it do a high quality conversion before passing to the audio out channels.
