I'm a total noob to audio, so please forgive me for my ignorance.
I'm running Fruity Loops Studio 9 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. My laptop is an HP HDX 18t with Nvidia HD Audio. I'm having a problem that I just can't get my head around.
Usually, I use FL Studio without other applications running, and it's perfect with ASIO4ALL. However, sometimes I need to look something up online or I might have Trillian (IM client) running. If I switch from FL Studio to another application, then the sound in FL Studio completely mutes. Most of the time I can switch back to FL and the sound will come back. However, there are times when switching back and forth between applications completely mutes sound system-wide. The only way I've been able to get it back is by rebooting.
So, as I said, I'm a complete noob and I have no idea as to whether this is a driver problem, a configuration problem or just something to be expected when using FL Studio, ASIO4ALL and other applications.
Please help! Many thanks.

FLStudio has an option to auto release the ASIO driver when it looses focus.
Make sure that is NOT selected. Only problem you will then have is that you will not have audio in applications that have focus.
