I tried out the commercial ASIO drivers that come with Cubase 5.1 and the latest ASIO4ALL beta head-to-head using Audacity... at the lowest latency settings, the commercial driver had enough of a delay that I couldn't stand using it. Cranked all the way down, I can't even hear the delay in ASIO4ALL, and it sounds great.
I'm sure this isn't news to anyone here, but *I* was impressed. Well done!
I'm using a December 22 CVS checkout of Audacity (main branch), and the latest ASIO4ALL beta. Feel free to poke me if you need a hand getting Audacity to play with ASIO4ALL, but I'm not writing a whole walkthrough of the process (there are several good ones out there already).
One question- I have an onboard VIA VT1708S. "Allow pull mode" introduces both noise and delay- is there something I should be configuring differently? From the documentation, it sounds like maybe I could increase my buffer size a little if pull mode worked.
Edit: I guess I should mention that I'm running 64 bit win7. I have the latest VIA 1780S reference drivers installed (I guess they don't call them reference drivers anymore, but you know what I mean- the generic driver straight from VIA).
