When I abruptly terminate a program that uses ASIO4ALL, the entire computer crashes. I am using Windows XP. I get the blue screen of death, and the message IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

The real question is: which program?
The issue(s) on asynchron program termination is the following:
- the sample/play program should take care of the processing buffer switches while there are some ASIO callback to the program in progress or closed to call.
- this termination is a timing task with: ASIO.Stop, ASIO.DestroyBuffers and destroy of the COM Interface.
- Also the play termination should also provide, in some cases, an empty output buffer which should be given to the DAC output. In other words it may requires some buffer switches to take place.
- even on the call of ASIO.Stop, it may in the same time slice, a buffer switch is in progress. A normal behavior of multi threading & asynchron calls
- also the question is after ASIO.DestroyBuffers (the oposite of CreateBuffers with the given callback addresses) ASIO4All should skip any outstanding ASIO messages & BufferSwitches
The ASIO specification are here not very clear how to deal with this issues.

My computer crashed to "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" bluescreen several times with my Realtek HD chip + "Generic asio driver" as well as Asio4all (Asio4all provides a lot less latency however), usually after an hour or two of usage.
What I did was I updated my Realtek HD audio drivers to latest ones, and so far I haven't had any bluescreens after the update using Asio4all (I've only used it for few hours after the update however).

I found that it doesn't matter which application you use, if it's hooked up with Asio4all it will crash as soon as it is initiated. I have Cubase LE5, which crashes immediately because it's set to use Asio @ start-up along with "Magix Music" maker "Toontrack solo" but the one that made me realize the problem lay with ASIO4All was with FLStudio, as I had to manually select ASIO prior to use with a new project & as soon as I selected it from the drop-down list, the entire PC crashes to the blue & white crash screen dialogue like the others! I'm considering a new Windows install, that's how desperate I've become! I need my Superior Drummer!

ASIO4ALL - a user mode component - cannot, itself, create a BSOD.
It can, however, trigger the latter through faulty kernel drivers. Usually, the faulting component is pointed out inside the BSOD itself, or otherwise in the Minidump which is normally created by Windows.

hey guys,
i have windows 7 - 64 bit and as soon as i tries to use the asio4all option either on deckadance - fl studio 10 - vdj the computer would crash !! in the blue screen appearing it would mention something about "stdriver64.sys" !! so after reading many forums, picking on programs, settings, control panels etc. i decided to find out what that "stdriver64.sys" was !! so i searced it on "My computer" found the file, deleted it , tried using asio again and it still crashed !! However when restarting the computer it told me my audio driver or smth related (not sure) needed update and i just clicked ok, meanwhile i restored the "stdriver64.sys" file from the recycle bin !! Everything works now... I hope it continues to do so !! I was about to downgrade to Windows XP !! but everything worked out for me (it feels like a miracle after all the things i tried) !! I hope you guys have luck as well !! other solutions i suggest is either formating your pc, downgrading/upgrading windows, uninstalling any recently installed software/hardware etc... good luck people ...

When I abruptly terminate a program that uses ASIO4ALL, the entire computer crashes. I am using Windows XP. I get the blue screen of death, and the message IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Same here. Start Cubase and you get the blue screen. Downgraded to 2.10 and problem solved. (Vista - SX2-HP DV9000)
