I tried out ASIO4all a while back and it seemed to fry my onboard audio hardware. When I installed the program and tried it out for the first time, it made this distortion sound sort of like a fuzz tone. As if Asio and windows media player were fighting or conflicted over the sound
Tried all kinds of things to resolve the problem including uninstalling ASIO. Finally after a point, I decided to just reinstall XP (SP3). The intel motherboard drivers would not completely install. At least the audio portion wouldn't. I forget at this point exactly what it was saying the problem was but it just seemed like it was fried. Finally, I gave up and installed an old audio card to get around the loss. Any help, suggestions or advice would be helpful.

I tried out ASIO4all a while back and it seemed to fry my onboard audio hardware. This only happens if the goat that you sacrificed in accordance with the instructions on pg. 14 of the manual was not a virgin anymore. Next time, when sacrificing domestic animals in order to pacify ASIO4ALL, keep in mind that it wants the blood of virgins!

If it is HD audio, windows XP SP3 sometimes has Issues.
I think you are connecting dots that are independent from each other. As is follows, "I went to burger-king, a meteor hit Russia, therefore I won't go to burger king unless I want a meteor to hit Russia."
Try installing the MS hotfix "KB888111". If it won't install do to saying it is not needed, try the following:
1.) Download the hotfix from Microsoft. 2.) Run 'regedit' and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows 3.) Find the CSDVersion key. Double click and change what should say 300, to 200. 4.) Run the patch. It should now install. 5.) Change the CSDVersion key back to 300.
This website has pictures to install it if you need help. After that loads, you should be able to load your HD audio driver. Realtek, sigmatel, IDT, whomever. Check with your PC or motherboard manufacture.
