You didn't specify which host application you use.

"Unavailable" means just that; The outputs of your sound device are in use elsewhere, presumably you have another audio application open or the MS GS Software Wavetable Synth is enabled as a MIDI output.

Besides, you shouldn't have to use the beta anymore. Version 2.1 has quite a number of issues resolved.
