Does ASIO4ALL support sample rates less than 44100?
I get "illegal sample rate" at 22050 seemingly no matter what sound card I'm using (and supposedly the cards support the rate, as they work fine there with MME and DirectX drivers).

This is a rather arbitrary limitation in ASIO4ALL where I decided that anything below 44.1k would not be particularly useful for audio work.
Currently, only sample rates that are multiples of 44.1k and 48k, respectively, are supported, where I could probably extend this support to include multiples of 8k/11,025k for sample rates below 44.1k without major code changes.
Didn't expect that anyone would need these, though.

Certainly these rate restrictions suit the vast majority of users.
My particular application is real-time Csound (software synthesis). 44100 works fine for moderately complex instruments on newer machines, but generates pops and clicks on older ones - even with A4A's settings tweaked as much as possible (max buffer length, 4 hardware buffers, no inputs).
The option of 22050 would be *most highly* appreciated in such situations (any lesser rate would indeed be of little other than experimental use). The fact is, since Csound5 *requires* ASIO drivers (which for those lacking multi-channel audio devices means ASIO4ALL - e.g., laptops & builtin sound cards & anything inexpensive), any older machine cannot do real-time Csound5. (Fortunately, previous versions of Csound permit MME and DirectSound drivers.)
Thanks for a wonderful and useful product. I'll check back periodically for version updates. I've taken upon myself the task of reporting back to the Csound community new versions of ASIO4ALL.

There you go: www.asio4all.com/A4Av26p1.exeDown to 8kHz inclusive, if one so desires. Of course, it would still only work if the sample rate in question is supported by the WDM driver.

Michael, This is wonderful - thanks so much. I've tested this version at various SR's with different computers and sound cards, and can verify that it works flawlessly (I tested at 8K, 11+K and 22+K). I'll announce the link to other Csounders, and check back to find when your "test 1" makes it into the standard release. I really appreciate it. Art Hunkins abhunkin@uncg.edu

Thanks, Michael, for standard release v2.6 incorporating the lower SR's. Art Hunkins abhunkin@uncg.edu
