i'm currently using a realtek ac97 sound card.
i play computer games sometimes to kill time. (fav. game = drift city)
ok... back to the main topic...
previously, with my old computer, when i play that game with the SAME sound card, it doesn't have any disturbances when i drive around.
right now, the engine sound crackles and splutters. it somewhat "breaks".
any idea(s) to fix this thing? because i tried muting my microphone, line in, aux line in 2, pc sound etcetc, ignoring the ones that turn off all the sounds.

Delta 66 card, delta ASIO, Realtek AC97 WDM driver
....chet why aren't you using the asio drivers for your delta 66...go to m audio and download them....
the ac '97 codec is useless, compared to the dedicated asio drivers for the delta66..

I was having the same problem with my Realtek onboard audio. No other programs were using sound, yet asio4all was showing the output device as unavailable. Here's how I fixed it; hope it works for you.
(I'm running Windows 7. The steps may differ on your OS, I'm not sure.)
Went to "Sounds" from Control Panel, which brings you to the Playback tab of the sound options. In the list of devices, I've got "Speakers" and "Realtek Digital Output." I disabled both (highlight, click Properties, change "device usage" at the bottom). Then restarted Ableton Live, and asio4all was now letting me use my output device. CRUSHED my latency, awesome!

I have the answer too all your problems, it is 1 of 2 things. 1. Go to your sound options and turn off the box were it says allow applications to have exclusive control 2. Go into registry and remove Microsoft GS wavetable synth
after these you will neer have sound conflicts again

I have an AC'97 ONboard soundcard on an ABIT Motherboard and when trying to launch the control panel the computer reboots....Checked the drivers and they are current and no flaws on the install. Hey man, I have the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?
