Alex,
In the "working configuration" you mentioned that you had inputs disabled with 1.8.
Is your SoundMax device of the newer kind that feature 5.1 sound anj jack-sharing, i.e. when input is enabled there is no 6ch output?
What happens if you disable inputs in 2.1?

Hi Michael, no it is the embedded soundmax in the HP nc6000 with a standard stereo channels output. If I disable the input everything goes on "beyond logic". Just as little info for you the offline panel shows:
Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio --> Soundmax Digital Audio ----> OUT 2x 8-48khz, 20Bits ----> IN 2x 8-48khz, 16Bits
Is it correct to have the 20/16 mismatch ?
Thanks a lot

Hello Alex,
The 16/20 "mismatch" is not a problem. Meanwhile, I found a system with a SoundMax that exposes the behavior you describe and will have a look at it.
Does the problem temporarily go away if you hit "Always resample..." repeatedly (with inputs enabled?)

Yes Michael, that is exactly the behaviour I see. Even if you move the sliders It temporarily goes away but if you start again the offline panel the beyond logic is still there. Hope this can helps

I think I found the problem. That particular driver version of SMWDM.SYS appears to have a bug in as far as you cannot open the outputs at 44.1Khz, which, with 2.1, does always happen at initialisation time if the driver says it supports it.
Another system with the same Mainboard but a newer version of the SoundMax driver does not have that problem, BTW.
I have made some changes so that it would work with the broken driver. However, to work at 44.1KHz you will need to leave the "Always Resample..." option checked. Resampling now works in "Hardware Buffer" mode, too (it did not with v1.8)
I will post an update soon.

Thanks Michael. Just as info:
How do I switch the frequency to 48khz once A4A is initialized ? Which Soundmax driver release worked well with the current A4A version (without Always resample ...)? I am using the 5.12.1.3920

The one that does not work either is 5.12.1.3621 (older than yours). The one that does work I can't tell you at the moment, since the other machine is not at my place. IIRC, it would show the AD1981 as a 6 channel card, which is bad news, since this would mean they are doing some internal 5.1 downmixing in _software_, meaning higher latencies. But I could have erred on this one, since I have tested quite a number of SoundMaxes recently and some of them were genuine 5.1 chips.
I would not mess with the driver, however, as your current one will work just fine with the next A4A release.
If you cannot wait, PM me with an address I can send a pre-release to ;-)
Mike

I have Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and latest WDM driver. A4A 1.8 works perfectly, 2.2 does not.

Hello Bob,
Could you please check with 1.8 if your card also works at 48kHz? (e.g. enable "Always Resample @44.1k")
There seems to be an issue with some WDM drivers in that they do not support all sample rates they claim.
Also, could you post a screenshot of the expanded device list in the 2.2 control panel?
Thanks!
