I've experienced a similar problem on my friends new laptop. Windows 7 x64 bit, HP, asio4all 2.9 not sure on the sound card specs just now. Some things I havnt tried yet, but plan on it, are disabling system sounds (and any other open audio applications) or finding an asio driver from the soundcard manufacturer.
Once I have the soundcard specs I'll post it, but any help would be appreciated.

win7 just WONT WORK with asio4all properly!!!you can spend a couple of hours changing your sound settings and eventualy some DAWs will work but the playback within the DAW will stop as soon as you minimize it to tray,or wont play at all if youre playing a song in winamp or some other player, even while waching youtube!!!! so i need a solution too...

Good to hear that there are more people with the same problem. let's hope to a solution asap! so, the same here: big latency in nuendo; installed asio4all; latency (almost) gone; no output. I can see that there is input, i even recorded some seconds - i just can't hear it! not while playing (guitar), not after recording, not the metronome, not anything. i have indication in the control panel of asio4all that "conexant HD audio output" is unavailable and "may be used by another application" or "wavetable synth enabled?" - but nothing seems to work.. help us, we are desperate

Ok, so asio4all seems to be having some issues with windows 7, if you want to downgrade, don't go to vista because vista has a new way of routing your sound devices which means you have to go buy I/O boxes to be able to record guitar. My cubase 5 on windows 7 is working great, it has an asio driver i can use, i tried asio4all but nope.
So I believe you should either downgrade to windows xp if you want to record guitar with vts like "guitar rig 3/4" and other stuff like that, I havent gotten deep enough in my settings to see if i can multi track record with my onboard sound card on windows 7, "which i could on xp"...
There are a few ways to do this though on windows 7, you just have to learn the new technologies. One way would be, if you have an extra sound card laying around, you could use two, one for recording and one for playback. Or I'm assuming you could go pick up a I/O box for recording instruments, which is like a sound card type device, they come as PCI or USB slots which would bring your instruments to an instrument recording level.
I have only had windows 7 for a few days, so if I find a solution soon, i'll come back and post it.

ok, with much success I multitrack recorded in cubase 5.1 on windows 7 with my dell inspiron 530. The sound card is a Realtek HD Audio, thats all it tells me.
I did use an asio driver but it wasn't the asio4all driver. And because of that I get popping on recording and playback, so as soon as I figure out how to get asio4all working ill post again with the results.
But i'm assuming since I could multitrack record on a realtek HD onboard card than that means I can get VSTs like guitar rig to work on windows 7 without having to buy a I/O box. although if you record direct into line in or mic with a vst as a processor your guitar is going to lose tone and not be able to ring out for very long. I'm sure a pedal or foot switch would bring your guitar to an intrument level for recording.
Depending on your guitar recording needs I would recommend the boss-gt pro, it's a rack unit that can plug into your computer via usb, and it acts as a super high quality I/O interface, so pretty much, you have high quality guitar recording capabilities without needing a cab, egg crate room, and mics.
It's f***in sick!
I mean i don't make metal anymore, but I use dimension ripping guitar patterns in my psytrance.
and edit it to my liking.

If the final link doesn't work for you (it did not for me), this might be useful.
I have realtek integrated sound and the up to date drivers, and ASIO4ALL in REAPER was giving me a "not connected" on my device output channels. I could record fine but had no output.
I solved the problem by opening my audio mixer and clicking the mute button on the Digital Output, Line In and Microphone tabs' "playback" slider, but leaving the Stereo one alone.
All I had to do then was restart REAPER and it worked straight away.

So I had windows 7 home premium....im a college student and we have free windows software, so I went ahead and upgraded to Windows 7 Professional, which allows you to run windows in "XP Mode". ASIO drivers work fine in XP...but will they work just as well when running Windows 7's "XP Mode"? I've been trying to reinstall the same setup i had on my previous XP computer on my new one in XP Mode. Has anyone tried this before. I recently bought a new computer...used to have XP, now i want it back.
-I mainly use Ableton Live 8 and Reason 4 when doing music
System: Toshiba Satellite A505, 4gb ddr3 ram, Windows 7 Professional

but will they work just as well when running Windows 7's "XP Mode"? No this will not work very good as the XP mode is just a virtual machine running windows XP on top of Windows 7. I am using ASIO4ALL without any problems on Windows 7 x64. Just make sure that you are using the latest drivers from realtek which you can download at their site. Also make sure that you disabled as must as service as possible, that you disable aero, etc. etc. See the what works topics for good suggestions on how to configure your system.

I was haivng the same problem usin ASIOFORALL (latest version) and I poked around in the audio settings for what seemed like a half an hour, trying all kinds of things because I couldn't record audio into my Sonar 6 P.E. well, I really wish I could explain what I had done, but I don't think I could ever really remember what I did!! BUT it fixed my problem and now I am running Sonar and Fruity Loops 9 XXL P.E. without any problems at all!! in fact, I am running Sonar with about 10-15 ms latency!!!! never done that with WDM drivers!! I have an older pc too, ASUS A8N SLI SE motherboard, 1.5 Gb DDR, 1 Terabyte Drive, and Windows 7 Ultimate N Edition, (which I installed 3 days ago.)

NOTHING! just read some pro mags (like Computer Music or Future Music) they will tell you on pcs/laptops with modern hardware it will not cause any performance slowdowns. some of you seem to have stopped in 2005.

MY DEAR FRIENDS I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!!! 1. Open your Asio host. 2. Enter asio configuration. 3.Disable your sound card Device in as shown here: [a href="img831.imageshack.us/img831/8592/hipsh.jpg"]img831.imageshack.us/img831/8592/hipsh.jpg[/a] 4. If necessary close the host and enter in your new asio config 5. If still not working, go to your control pannel and enter Playback devices options. and then in the options of each device (or perhaps just the speakers, i did all anyway) go to advanced config and unmark "Allow applications to take exclusive control" and go back to steo one. Let me know if it worked. [/size] Linetzky@gmail.com
