I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on what kind of microphone I should get to use the Vocoder within Reason 4.0 with AISO4ALL?
I have tried hooking up a dynamic microphone (shure sm58) by going PA cable, to 1/4", then to 1/8" into my laptop, but this does not seem to produce any sound other than static...
Should I be looking at USB microphones (condenser/dynamic) or am I hooking up the microphone the wrong way and I need a USB interface? Please let me know, I would really appreciate some advice to get this rolling!
vordrix@hotmail.com THANKS!!!

There is a huge difference in quality of sound-chips. Today most built in cards are quite good, and you can choose channels independently in your recording software. Check if your soundcard shows up on the input-list of the channel you want to record to in the recording software.(or asio-driver if you use asio4all) Check if the device is activated and the volume set properly in the device list of the system.(system/sound/recording) Doubleclick on the device to see it's status. The advantage of usb-soundsticks (eg terratec aureon) is that they work with all machines and show up in the recording software, the same goes for usb-mics. If you want to record on a regular basis i would suggest a usb audio interface with several input output options.

forgot! Always use headphones when there is a micro-out connection. Modern audio devices deactivate possible feedback sources.
