So, I just built a Core i7, 16GB Ram, 240 SSD, 1TB HD, Gigabyte MB, Realtek Optical out to Sony Surround Sound system for video and audio production. I'm using Reaper for a DAW. All was well until I bought a small Akai midi keyboard and had too much latency. Installed Asio4all to correct the latency, but when I opened some ASTi instruments from Cakewalk their was no sound. (Even though it plays and the meter jumps). In Asio advanced config only Realtek Digital Optical Out is selected. After 3 days of googling and trying dif settings, I suddenly discovered that if I opened the Realtek control panel on the PC, and changed the output from Digital Optical Out to Digital Out. Wallah - Reaper and Asio works!! (with Asio config still set to Optical Out). Of course when I'm done with reaper I have to change Realtek Control panel back to Digital Optical out to get any sound, which is kind of a pain, but livable. Any ideas on why Asio works with the Realtek digital out selected? It would be great if I could solve this. Other than that Asio4all seems to be great for latency reduction!
