First post here.
Not entirely asio4all related , but if I can get asio4all running normally , it might level this thing out a bit.
I make music on my acer aspire 5610
Im using windows xp pro sp3
Attached to the laptop I have the usual mouse and keyboard , but also a 1tb western digital drive , a 7 port usb hub , and a M-audio fast track pro audio interface.
IThe software im using is FL studio 11 which is legit , plus a number of VST plugins within that.
The problem im having is that the sound will sputter and spit every two minutes , like its buffering , or there are cpu spikes , but it didnt use to do this. I've went to the audio properties within FL studio and played around with buffer settings , extending them as far as they will go , and turned on everything that says " turn this on as it may help your cpu ".
Another strange thing is that there are 2 sets of sound drivers on my laptop.
there are the default Realtek drivers which i have updated , and there are the m-audio drivers which play normally for about 5 minutes , then turn grungey all of a sudden , as if they are being ring modulated / distorted. This also happens with the ASIO4ALL drivers , and I dont know why. I have updated them to the latest drivers.
what i've done so far
Updated m-audio and realtek sound drivers
opened up the laptop to check for dust. Blew the fan grill and it was ok.
bought a base cooling fan , and an external usb flexi-fan......both of which are running when the problem occurs , so i dont think its an issue with overheating.
additional info :
If i abruptly change a parameter on a VST , it will usually start the playback sputtering , so i think , ok , it must be the VST is using too much cpu , so i'll render its output to wav , to bypass the vst , but it still does it.
I've also noticed that even during playback of my music collection , using winamp or whatever , it will occasionally stutter.
The thing i cant work out is , is this CPU , graphics , or sound related ??
Please help , cos its driving me crazy and really undermining my confidence to make music when I cant hear it play back normally and properly.
Thank you in advance
This is what it looks like visually.
I used a small program I found on here about 10 minutes ago , called dbclat.
Those red bars are the problem. What is causing them ?
