here is the way i see the problem. running win xp pro - cubase sx without the asio4all (as the cubase asio driver), there is considerable latency but there is sound. with the asio4all driver, there is virtually no latency (as i can see in the meters) but there is no sound output. what i can see is that in the cubase device settings for input/output (VST system link) there are only options of "usb device 1" or "usb device 2" there is no choice for the system sound card as output. i can see the signal clear and strong on the meters, but nothing in the speakers.
here's how i just fixed it... in cubase, go into the device setting and open the control panel on the asio - this brings up the asio4 control. enable your usb device (if applicable) and then disable the usb out. then enable your soundcard device (soundmax in my case) then disable the input. go to the VST system link screen and set the in to your usb device and the out to the soundcard. make sure in the windows audio settings that the input device is set to your usb and the output is set to your soundcard.
Hope you all have good luck with it!! CHeers! J

Success over here !!, using the latest asio and realtek drivers on Vista 64. By using advanced mode on the asio panel you can disable the inputs and outputs, simply turn off all but the ones you need and playback is once again achieved.
Hope this helps at least some people.

Has anyone trying buying an external soundcard that eliminated latency??? like a m-audio or focusrite etc.... I have the same problem and I went on youtube and this dude (dj pain) said that for all of you dumb fuks who keep asking me about latency, you better not be using stock soundcards.. he goes on about how he tried the ASIO and other drivers and its all Shyt... So my question is... Does anyone have one of these and does it kill latency as advertised? I have sony acid 6 and Kontack as a VST, and in my audio device prefs it says not connected...
My email is project9media@gmail.com
Please email me if you have a soundcard. Thanks
Ron

spotify, mensenger, skype, tracktor dj,cubase, live for speed(game), Are any of the above running at the same time? It could be something as small as an open YouTube browser Window, known to not release the audio driver, even after video playback has finished!

Hi everybody! Yesterday I was searching how to hear something from my laptop speakers with asio drivers. I have a similar configuration of those ones posted here, Acer Aspire 5738G with a realtek HD audio card and both vista 32bit and windows 7 64bit. well, to solve the problem I simply tried to change the parameters of audio output/input from the asio driver control panel, check out my screen www.allfreeportal.com/imghost/viewer.php?id=160269asio4all.jpgnow I can play with my eletronic drumkit connected to the computer and I can hear what I'm playing. yeah, I can't open both guitar pro or windows media player while I have a DAW running, but that's enough for me. hope that this could help someone!

hey people, i am also in the same boat, Realtek HD Audio, ASIO4ALL 2.9
when using Sony ACid,selecting ASIO4ALL as my audio device shows 'not connected' classic wave driver is fine, but i can't split all my channels and have the low latency.
After a fornight of scratching and removal and reinstallation of drivers i am nowhere nearer my goal, but i do have the following bits of information
The problem first manifested itself in a Blue Screen upon Acid loading ASIO4ALL.
The only thing i could think of that had changed was the installation of a bit of cheap freeware, an audio codec converter.
the problem seemed to be this file stdriver64.sys uninstallation of the Audio Converter solved the Blue Screen on load of ASIO, but ASIO has not worked since.
I think it knackered the Audio System somehow.

I posted on another form, but this one is bigger so...I found a little work around if you have some advanced options in your realtek HD sound card software. It can allow you to send different audio to different jacks. So the front headphone jack can play different sounds than the back headphone jack (or line out jack). I enable this advanced feature and then set ASIO4All to play to the Realtek HD Audio 2 output (after I plugged in my headphone into the front jack) and I hear sound from Fl studio through my headphones, but I'd like to find a more permanent solution to this problem also.

I'm not really sure yet because i just started messin around with my sound devices, i think the problem is that the realtek sound card is not ASIO compatible. I think it will only support direct x drivers. so far i havent found anything related to realtek and asio drivers but like i said i just started messin around with it. think the best thing to do is buy a different soundcard.

<facepalm> of course realtek is not asio compatible, that's why we need to use asio 4 ALL

Same problem with external asio usb device. Use asio device as input and realtek hd as output. Works fine, but no output sound with other Apps like Guitar Pro. System Win7 64bit.
On my old XP it works without problems.
