Hi Michael,
I noticed that with High Definition Audio (Realtek in this case on a 915 chipset) the latency cannot go lower past a certain point which seems to be 512 samples. What I mean is that the slider can be turned all the way down to 64 samples but the latency remains at 512 samples with a noticeable delay between pressing a key and hearing the sound. The delay is not huge but it is far greater than what I could get on a much older P4 1.7 laptop with a soundmax chip.
Any Suggestions?
Many Thanks

Unfortunately, this appears to be a common issue with Realtek drivers. I can only assume that they try to emulate some of these "virtual surround" or whatever effects at the kernel driver level and do not completely switch off the mechanism whenever these gizmos are not welcome.
More than one year ago, I have sent an e-mail to Realtek describing the issue and even pointing out that, for some, this property of their hardware, once known, may influence the buying decisions of a number of customers.
You can take a wild guess as towards the support level that e-mail got stuck ad infinitum.

Maybe the settings that worked for my realtek hd chip also aply for you. I have no latency with the following settings:
Choose advanced in your asio4all control panel, Set your asio buffer to 1024 (for example, it works fine for me) Ajust both latency compersation sliders to 1024. Deselect the hardware acceleration buffer. Also deselect the always resample 44.1khz <-> 48khz function.

Just purchased a new laptop and found out it has Intel HD codec too :/
Is there a way to get a decent latency out of this? Or even use hardware acceleration? Man, it's so bad to upgrade this days...

So does ASIO4ALL generally not work in computers with Realtek/Intel HD codecs? These things are why I can never upgrade.

i found out the same problem, a realtek HD audio device will have about 250ms delay when monitoring recordings no matter what setting of Asio4All. anyway, the recorded track has no delay with other track , seems perfectly align in multitrack view. it works perfectly with realtek 97. i have to use back the old com i guess. btw, thanks Michael Tippach for your great work. your program rocks ;D

I was just about to get a ABIT Fatal1ty AN9 32X Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP/SPP 190 with HD AUDIO CHIP.
But now that I see they don't work good with ASIO4ALL I just may have to go with Nforce4 and REALTEK AC97.
Good lookin' out CTK!
Michael do you think the HD chips will work better with asio4all in the future, or do things look to stay the way they are now?
Thanks!

1 more question for Michael,
What motherboard would be best working with ASIO4ALL?
I'm about to build a new system and I want ASIO4ALL to work as best as possible. I think maybe nforce4/realtekAC97?

I hope this helps someone... my asio4all output with the realtek hda was unavailable as well under Vista. I went into the sound control panel -> playback -> speakers, advanced tab... and set the default format to 16-bit 44.1khz. Now ASIO is working perfectly with Guitar Rig. ;D

Under Windows XP I just can't get decent latencies at all using either the WDM driver or the asio4all driver - probably because of my onboard Sigmatel HD audio (Intel 945GM chipset).
HOWEVER, under Vista I can achieve glitch-free audio under heavy CPU loads at a latency of 14ms (which is decent, but still not that amazing). So it seems that Vista handles these HD audio codecs better than XP at least.
I hope for better latencies in the future!
Cheers, _sP_
