Same problem here. ASIO4ALL didin't do this under Windows XP, but when I switched to Windows 7, it stopped letting me open two programs capable of playing audio at the same time (including browser windows!) Oh well. I am using the Presonus Audiobox.

I succeeded in simultaneously using foobar2000 and energyXT with asiomulti & ASIO4ALL. My sound chip is Realtek HD Audio, specifically ALC1200 - however, this should work with any devices and applications, assuming that you are able to use ASIO4ALL normally. Here's how I did it:1. Install asiomulti. 2. Start up the asiomulti server and make sure it is using ASIO4ALL as the target driver. 3. Start up application A, set output to "ASIO Client" (this is the asiomulti virtual device). 4. Close application A. 5. Start up application B, set output to "ASIO Client". 6. Configure application B to use the same sampling rate and bit depth as application A. 7. Start up application A. Now both applications should be able to play audio via ASIO. If only one of them works, verify that the sampling rates and bit depths match. You might also need to reconfigure ASIO4ALL via asiomulti, but it seems this is only possible if the virtual device is not in use. I downloaded asiomulti at www.vidance.com/asiomulti/asiomulti.html, in case there are different versions about. Hope this helps! bypasser you are a genius! I am running Vista on my laptop with a Realtek HD audio onboard card. By following the steps given I can now edit samples from my current Ableton sessions with Sound Forge simultaneously! Thanks a lot. Can't beleive everyone has ignored your post, works a treat! JB

Would bypasser's fix work for.. say playing a video on Youtube and running Reaper at the same time?

So, what if we 're using two sound cards? Will that be ok? If ASIO4ALL takes the one, should I still hear sound from the other sound card?

Hello, so does bypasser's solution work when trying to run and listen to youtube, winamp, windows media player, all while using asio4all when running fruity loops or anything that uses asio4all. Has any found a solution that would run regular sounds on one program while running asio4all sounds on another program. Thanks for any who apply with an answer. BTW thanks for the asio program.

hello, I am using Ableton and Wavosaur simultaneously with the ASIO multiclient driver which was mentioned by bypasser, but there is no sound in Wavosaur. I think both programs are running with the same sampling rates and bit depths. When I go to the audio routing options of Wavosaur, there is no soundcard output on the left side.
Does anybody know what is wrong?

I have the same issue on a pc running windows 7.
I doubt that the fix mentioned earlier would be helpful for playing youtube etc.
Asio4all you need to fix this, its obviously some sort of compatability issue and your software, however good it may be, needs updating.
All the best 1 Concerned User

Hello...I don't know if this is really your Problem, but there is a Function in Vista to allow more than one Sound Application at the same Time. I tried to explain it in German, because I dont know the right Words to find the Way in English. 1.) Go to "Systemsteuerung" 2.) Go to "Sound" 3.) Choose your Soundcard with Right Mouse Klick and choose "Eigenschaften" 4.) At the Registercard "Erweitert" you will find an Entry called: "Anwendungen haben alleinige Kontrolle über das Gerät" You will need to unmark this Entry - and thats it ! It's a bit different in Windows 7, and it doesn't work there. ASIO4All still occupies all sound-related resources, this preventing ALL sounds from coming to the output (be it an audio player, a website or a simple messenger making noise when a message arrives).

I am also having this problem. I am almost positive it's a Windows 7 / Vista problem because I also have an XP and I don't have this problem on that o.s. for some reason asio4all doesn't work with realtek for supporting multiple applications under Vista and Win 7.
I have a Delta 1010LT sound card and on my Vista x64, multiple applications run and all have sound the only problem is when I need to use my headphones since none of the sound card inputs supports my headphones I have to plug it into my cpu to get a signal from the onboard soundchip. The only problem is sometimes I'm trying to use the browser and my DAW at the same time and even other applications and with my DAW using asio it just doesnt work.
Asio please try to fix this, even if I buy a headphone amp for my sound card, when I switch back to my on-board sound, trying to get multiple apps to play sound would still be a nightmare. It's such a big deal because the latency is too unbearable without asio even with my sound card, it's amazing when using asio how much the latency (and static) cuts down and that's vital for what I do. Please Asio..

hi i have had similar problems. and solved them.
used to be on WinXP and Reaper/ Reason worked perfectly with ASIO4All.
upgraded to Win7 and SB X-Fi and now i can't run Reaper whilst playing youtube. I do that sometimes to do play-alongs for practice purposes.
Individually there's no problem. but running Reaper via ASIO4all will lock up the soundcard and other applications have no sound.
Solution: I changed back to CreativeASIO in reaper and now everything works great, just like the old times. Everything plays simultaneously.
Very likely ASIO4ALL is the problem. I've heard CreativeASIO drivers are crap compared to ASIO4all but i've detected no perceptible difference, latency at 5ms with no popping/ cracking.
hope this helps.

Hi, i am using FlStudio and own a super crap onboard soundcard desinged by intel who should lower the sight in sign of shame It's a 2 channel high deffinition audio device. It has only one channel to deal with which forces me to quit all other applcations before using A4A. I'd like to know if someone know a tool software that could unhook any app from the soundcard temporarely from a simple taskbar tab right click menu item. Say i use Google chrome and FlStudio, have Fl on autoclose device so i can hear Chrome... And instead of putting chrome dead, i unhook it from soundcard (which is the purpose of the concept) and return in FL and immediately have access to the channel... I had the issue on Xp, vista and seven, on the same computer. I'm pretty sure there is some part of the exes's existance that contains a standard module for audio rendering or something (cant find words) Like... Any window is made of a launcher and all launchers has to be win32 compatible... And this compatibility part sure has somewere something that does the audio channel hooking and at which the unhooking could be performed! (finaly written it ah) So yah... I'm not a registered user so ehmm... If there are news about that, i am on FlStudio's forums with the same nickname! Cyaz!

Hi there, I hope somebody can help me. I'm sorry if the answer is alreday located somewhere in this thread but I don't have time to read all posts.
Basically, I can't seem to be able to record my ASIO4ALL output. For example, I playback my pieces through Sibelius notation software using ASIO4ALL and want to record this output. I use a program called iSound Recorder which records in high quality any sound coming through my PC's internal soundcard. This works perfectly if I get Sibelius to use the Primary Sound Driver but as soon as I get Sibelius to playback through ASIO4ALL, the iSound Recorder gives me the following error message;
"Audio Client Initialisation Failed. The endpoint device is already in use. Either the device is being used in exclusive mode, or the device is being used in shared mode and the caller asked for the device in exclusive mode"
Any idea why I can't record this ASIO output? Is it anything to do with the title of this thread? Many thanks,

Hi to all,
I've got the same problem; I was vorking with XP and got no problem for 3 years (using Guitar Pro 5.2/Guitar Rig 3/Winamp 5.5 together).
Now for development issues I've got to install win7...and Mr.Death has come upon my head...if I start first guitar pro anithing else doesn't go...the resource is occupied by another process (midi, wave...anything..)
I've tried installing Realtek newest drivers (Motherboard Asus PK5PL) but all I've got is a "Beyond Logic" error for all input peripherals so it has been impossible to check if a new driver can solve the problem
I've tried the "multiasio" suggestion but it is only giving out strange and annoying noises...
I hope that this problem will be solved some way..

I hope that this problem will be solved some way.. Its not a problem and will probably never be fixed. You have the same issue op XP but there you were probably using other ASIO drivers.

exyll: no...I'm sure it's not my fault and I wasn't having the same issue on XP...I was using ASIO4All 2.9 on XP and I was reporting no problems...
